In my book, Hanging Out with the Most High God, 19-year-old Billy Lymon grows into a life-altering relationship with God, even though he is gay.

After praying about what to write in my blog, I walked away feeling I should write about why I’ve written a book called “Hanging Out with the Most High God” and why I want to share this book.

First, I wrote the book because I’ve always wanted to be an author, and ever since I accepted Christ as my Personal Savior, I wanted to write only about this.

Secondly, it would be selfish not to. As a gay man, I know that God loves me, and in the presence of God is fullness of joy – should someone gay be looking for that sort of thing. I wrote the book to show that a relationship with God can happen, even though many say it can’t. And though the book is fiction, God is as true in this bit of fiction as in real life.

Finally, I was glad I had written my book about Hanging Out with the Most High God after seeing an awards show where an out and proud gay performer strutted through the audience in a devil suit with horns and a smug attitude to match. He seemed to say look how free I am singing my song, and I’m not afraid of burning in hell.

Not being one to judge another man’s choices, I say to the entertainer that pranced around depicting what I see as something untrustworthy, do as you choose. But since most people think that being gay is all about getting to burn in hell anyway, I, as an out and proud gay man, am glad to have written a book about hanging out with God, showing that all gays don’t want or need to be seen in the same light as a dancing devil, just in case someone jumps to that conclusion from something they saw on television. We are a diverse community.

In the days ahead, I look forward to sharing more spiritual thoughts and stories with you, and I hope to hear some of yours, too.
